WHEN YOU ARE SQUIZZED ON ALL SIDES

SUNDAY SERVICE

Pastor Maselo Mosomane

“So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” 2Corinthians 4:18 NLT

There are times in life when all four sides of the room of your life seem to be closing up on you. You open your eyes and you see nothing but storms brewing all around you. Dark clouds are hanging so low, unless you take cover you may be hurt. You quickly rush into your house but there is a whirlwind already in there. To escape the whirlwind you think of leaving early for work. Not long after leaving home you drive into a stagnant traffic. Oh the traffic is not budging and there is a meeting to attend at the office. When you finally arrive and rush into the meeting, you are summoned to the manager’s office and he gives you a verbal warning for being late for the meeting. You try to explain but no one is listening. Here you are, not knowing what to do. You head straight to your office to at least catch the air. The telephone rings. You pick it up and there is someone rude on the other side of the line – a bank official threatening legal action against you on your overdraft. You run to the rest room to wipe a little tear. There goes the PA system calling you to the reception. So what! You take those gracious but confused steps to the reception only to meet with a Sherriff – he has come to make a final demand on your car. Are you the man?

What do we do in a case like this? Well, that’s not all. These are but just a fraction of what people face on daily basis. The world is crumbling around you and you start asking question; why me? God where are you when my enemies are feasting on me? Why do you allow these to happen to me? Is there a God somewhere? If you are there; say "PRESENT!"

Friend, you are asking wrong questions. In fact you are not even supposed to ask questions because the answer is in your bedroom – in your bible. These things are not happening because God does not exist. They are not falling on you because there was no one else they could fall on to. When you ask a question; “why me?” an answer roars across the sky; “why not who?” When you ask questions like “where is God when I go through all these” God says I am right where I was when My Son died for you.

Open your bible to John 16:33 and you will hear Jesus say; “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” “But cheer up! I have overcome the world" GWT. Jesus never promised us life without problems. He said there will always be discomfort, but don’t be troubled for I have overcome any kind of problem you might have to face. Why ask God questions when Jesus has already provided us with full understanding of what is happening and what the outcome will be?

Listen to what Paul who was mightily inspired by the Holy Spirit when he himself went through the same hick-ups of life; “...don't look at the troubles we can see now” Did you hear that? Don’t look at the troubles you can see now. You see where our battles are lost? We look at the troubles we can see now. We pay attention to what we see. We focus our attention on what bothers us now and this prompts fear in us. Our eyes have a tendency of magnifying problems. Many times the problems that make us run around like a headless chicken are not beyond our ability to handle.

There are always two places you can look at when chips are down; the PROBLEM or the SOLUTION. How often do we find ourselves focussing all our attention on the problem itself? Do we ever get help from that? Friend there is no help in the problem. All that we find in the problem is misery, pain, depression and fear. Is this what you want? But when we turn our attention to the solution – i.e. when we turn our eyes to things that that sponsor solution, all fear and misery disappear.
