FOUR STEPS TO SPIRITUAL GROWTH Step1 Topic 1

Step 1: Study the Word of God
Topic 1: Do you want Gold? Identify the right Mine

Pastor Maselo Mosomane

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8

When Moses the servant of God was about to die, he appoint Joshua his servant to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land. It happened when they were just about to cross the Jordan and enter the land. As soon as Joshua was inaugurated, Moses climbed the mountain and died there. For the first time God spoke to Joshua. You will recall that all the time God would speak to Moses and Moses would in turn speak to Joshua and the masses. But this time; since Moses was not more, God spoke to Joshua. He said “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel” I think this was necessary to affirm the young leader. God said many other things to Joshua, like be strong and courageous and so on. But God said something else in verse eight of chapter one. We will however, confine ourselves to this.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” God instructed Joshua to study and meditate upon the word of God. He said when he does that; he will make his way prosperous and have good success.

Who will make Joshua’s way prosperous? Who will have good success? Joshua! When he spend time studying and practicing the word, God said he will make his way prosperous and make him have good success. The Amplified Version renders it in this fashion; “..you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.” The Message says “Then you'll get where you're going; then you'll succeed.” The book was like a map for young Joshua to follow. Only when he was in the parameters of the book will he be successful and reach his destination. How is it when we look at the book as an instruction book or a manual?

We hold the key to our success and prosperity. God has already done all that is necessary to prosper us – nothing is left undone. We read in Genesis chapter two that as soon as God finished His work, He rested. Jesus too; when He had finished what He said “it is finished” in John 19:30 He died. On the third day He arose and came to life again. Forty days later He was lifted up into heaven and set at the right hand of God and rested. Jesus has finished His assignment and; like His Father, He has entered into rest. He said “I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.” John 17:4.

All that was necessary to release our prosperity has already been done. The manifestation of our promise is in our hands. God said to Joshua; “For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Success and prosperity are products of a diligent search of the Scripture and commitment to act upon it. Our success is nowhere but in the pages of the bible. But be careful; there is no success in just perusing the bible like you are reading any other printed material. Success is not found lying on the surface of the pages of the bible; neither is it found in the alphabets and words used to convey the message. You’ve got to dig dipper than that. It is not found in our mental understanding of the bible. It is found in the revealed message which is released from the written word as we refuse to let this book depart from our eyes. When we take time to study the word; God reveals it to us. In fact, He reveals Himself to us. God reveals Himself to us through the bible.

God tells us in the bible that “…those who seek me diligently will find me. Riches and honor are with me, Enduring riches and righteousness.” Proverbs 8:17-18. Do you want to prosper and be successful? Do you want to be rich? Well; you can’t seek further than this. You have found the answer. Riches and honor; enduring riches and righteousness are found nowhere else but in the Lord. Seek the Lord with all your heart; spend time in His word, for this is the only place where you will find Him.

I have realized something amazing about the word of God. I have realized that the word of God is alive. It has eyes and can see. It has ears and it hears. It also has a mouth; it speaks. When you read or study the word; know that it has eyes, it watches you. It sees deep in your heart. You cannot deal with the word of God through your mind – the word searches the deep things of the heart. You have to study until you pass through the mental realm and enter the spiritual dimension. This is where you stop reasoning the word. You only believe. It doesn’t matter whether you understand or not; only believe. When you do so; God will unlock it for you. He will speak back to you.

God is not going to reveal Himself to people who are in a hurry, rushing themselves out of the bible just to busy themselves with issues that does not have anything to do with Him. He said “I am a jealous God.” Exodus 20:5. “My name is Jealous” Exodus 34:14. He never reveals His word to people who are just passing through the bible. I have seen it in my life. When I am too busy or have some issues in my mind and I go ahead and read or the word; I never hear what He wants to say to me until I am calm and relaxed. He says in His word; “Be still, and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10. If you want Him, seek Him diligently and you will find Him. Lay aside every weight and fix your eyes unto Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our faith.

All that we will ever need is found in the word. Health, forgiveness of sins, redemption, prosperity, success, peace and wellness are found in the word. God instructed Joshua to study and actionize the word. Friend, the instruction might have been for Joshua but the principle is for whosoever will seek the Lord with all his heart. When Joshua died the principle remained; it did not die with him. Anyone who has the courage to follow the example of Joshua will reach his promised land.

I invite you to come along with us as we begin this brand new series. May the Holy Spirit be your tour guide as we venture together in this direction.
