THE KINGDOM PRINCEPLES OF MONEY

Principle Number 2 - continues

Establish the right mindset about money Part 2

Pastor Maselo Mosomane

“For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.” (Matthew 25:14-18)

We don't know it all

Fellow Christians, we are going to have to swallow our pride; open up and be willing to learn even from non-believers. I do not know many things, but what I do know is that God is not religious: hence many so-called religious people miss Him. Christians are not religious people too. They are relational. This is evident in Jesus interaction with the Pharisees. Just when they thought He was on their side He would go out and dine with publicans and sinners.

If we continue to lock ourselves up in our religious cocoons, we will miss what God has for us. We will miss His will for our lives. Indeed Jesus was right when He said: “…for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.” (Luke 16:8) This man, Jesus tells us about, had a financial story to tell - his life in itself was a story worth relating.

Let us be humble enough to admit that not all the expertise needed for our development is found in the church. Of course all we need for our spiritual development is found nowhere else other than in the church. God ordained that the church should be a pillar and foundation of the truth (1 Timothy 3:16). But for our development pertaining to this world and how it functions e.g. science and technology etc. is not limited to the church. How I wish it were so but regrettably wishes won’t turn things around. I wish I could shout from the rooftop and say; “WE DON’T KNOW IT ALL!” It takes wisdom and courage for one to admit his limitations. People of Jesus’ time never acknowledged their limitation and Jesus said this to them; “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.” (John 9:41) If we would admit our ignorance, He will lead us into all truth.

Oh how I wish you, my beloved reader, could hear and understand me well. The people in the church are not perfect yet, but the Word of God is infallible and enough to shape and mould us into the character God intended for us to be when we were “fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14) I suppose we must admit that there isn’t enough teaching of the Word of God in our churches to develop people; spirit soul and body to the level of appreciation. The Word of God with its unlimited power to develop is not taught enough to develop believers; hence the least-developed people in every society constitute the church today. The church is concentrated with the most impoverished people in many communities.

What am I trying to say? I’m trying to say, when the Word is taught and is practiced, we will be able to strike a godly balance. The Word will impart wisdom to us about what we can do and what we cannot do for ourselves. For instance; Solomon's temple material was not supplied by the people of God. Solomon had to outsource the contract to Hiram king of Tyre who also supplied Solomon with skilled workforce for the project. Our very own houses where not built by Christians. The transport we use; the shops we buy from; the companies we work for! Do you see it my friend?

If we could just admit our limitations and our need to learn, the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. How will He do that? I don’t know which way He will use in your case but; sometimes He uses our intuition; sometimes revelation as we study the Word or fellowship with God in prayer or as we meditation in His Word; for the entrance of God’s word gives light and understanding to our hearts and then illuminates our minds. (Psalms 119:30) In some cases He does this by leading us to people with more knowledge, skill and expertise than us. If we could just remain humble and teachable, the Holy Spirit will use such people (saved or unsaved) to transfer skills, knowledge and expertise to our account. Haven’t you read in Proverbs 13:22? “But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.” Some wealth is in the form of money; some in the form of material good; but still some is in the form of knowledge, skill and expertise. The secret is still the same. Remain open and non-judgmental. I don’t know about you but when I look back in my life; I realize how I missed most important opportunities simply because someone was not saved.
